I talk a lot on this blog about essential oils and the things you can make with them to replace toxic products in your home, but I’d like to switch gears for a bit and talk not only about essential oils that can benefit you before and after your workout, but also some of the other amazing products that Young Living makes that can also have a huge benefit on your performance (backed by science!)

If its good enough for the Iron Cowboy, its good enough for me! Here are some of my favorite oils and other products that help support great performance!
Honestly, there are days where I have to drag myself off the couch and out of my pjs in order to get my workout in. Of course, I never regret it afterwards, but it still sometimes takes a lot to get me motivated to get up and do it.
Aptly enough, Young Living makes a great oil blend called Motivation that is perfect in times like this. You can either apply it topically, or my favorite is to just take some deep sniffs of it straight from the bottle because I’m already too lazy to go workout, so it saves me a step. ;) Other awesome blends for this purpose are Valor, Highest Potential, Believe, and En-R-Gee.
Another pre-workout concern is performance enhancement. Every athlete wants to be better, faster, and/or stronger than they were they day or workout before. Believe it or not, there are actually oils that can really help with performance boosts in a natural, healthy way.
Peppermint essential oil has been thoroughly studied for its benefits to athletes and performance. One such study shows amazing results: not only did ingesting a small amount of Peppermint oil (Peppermint Vitality if you’re using Young Living!) increase grip strength by 36%, vertical jump by 7%, and long jump by 6%, but visual and auditory reaction times were also significantly decreased. The coolest part-tests were given at 5 minutes post-ingestion as well as an hour post-ingestion, and the results stuck.
Other awesome oils you can use to support your body pre-workout are RC and Cypress.
How about those DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) after an awesome workout?? I used to think that super sore muscles were just a part of post-workout life, and it meant that I had gotten in a really great workout, but that’s not the case! So if minimizing post-workout soreness doesn’t reduce the efficiency of the workout, what crazy person would want to be sore the next day? Awesomely enough, Young Living has some amazing products to help!
One of my favorite things to do after an especially brutal workout is to take a bath with epsom salts and some Copaiba essential oil. No joke-I’ve never had any day after soreness no matter how hard I worked when I do this bath right after a workout. The Copaiba is so great at helping aid your body’s natural response to inflammation and its so soothing. Copaiba doesn’t really have a strong scent either, so its great for those who don’t want to come out of a bath smelling like rose petals!
Another favorite of mine is the Cool Azul Pain Cream. This is super awesome for providing cooling relief from minor muscle & joint aches, arthritis, strains, bruises, and sprains. This one is particularly helpful for when you’ve overdone it a bit and and maybe have more extreme soreness. The Methyl Salicilate found in Wintergreen essential oil helps alleviate pain in muscles and joints. I think of this as a way more natural and good for you Bengay. Supplements and Nutrition
We all know that what we put in our bodies to fuel them is just as, if not more, important than how we train them. That’s why Young Living has a huge range of nutrition items and supplements. It makes fueling our workouts so much easier when we know exactly what’s going into our bodies and that we are getting the proper nutrients.
Some of my favorites are the Protein Complete powder (25g of whey protein plus a ton of vitamins and minerals) and the Balance Complete powder (a superfood-based meal replacement shake great for super busy people who still want to get their nutrition right.) Both are super yummy blended with some coconut or almond milk and a little spoonful of almond butter. I like to add some extra frozen fruit in there too for my breakfast.
There are also a couple of supplements of Young Living’s that are particularly good for athletes: Powergise and Agilease are two that come to mind.
Powergize supports mental clarity, concentration, and alertness, and helps maintain balanced energy levels for enhanced performance. It also helps aid in muscle recovery after a workout.
Agilease a great supplement for athletes and those middle aged and older, and supports joint flexibility and mobility. Boswellic acid, UC-II indentured collagen, hyaluronic acid & calcium fructoborate combine to support cartilage function and reduce inflammation.
